2025 Young Scientists Forum (6th Session) was sucessfully held

March 19, 2025 Published

On the morning of March 14, 2025, the 2025 Young Scientist Seminar of College of Management was successfully held in A205, Mingli Building. Gong Tianyu, Assistant Professor of School of Economics and Management, Tongji University, attended the seminar as a special guest. On behalf of the College, Prof. Chen Xingyu, Vice Dean of our college, expressed her sincere welcome to Dr. Gong as well as the representatives of faculty and students from all departments attending the seminar.

In this seminar, Dr. Gong Tianyu gave a brilliant academic presentation on the topic of “Technology War and Trade War: The Impact of Techno-Nationalism and Trade Nationalism on Corporate Innovation”. He analyzed the double pressure faced by Chinese enterprises against the background of the US-China trade war and technology war. By adopting the double difference (DID) method, Dr. Gong's study found that technological nationalism significantly reduces firms' expansive innovation, but at the same time enhances firms' novelty innovation; and trade nationalism further exacerbates this trend, resulting in a significant decrease in expansive innovation and a significant increase in novelty innovation for firms under dual pressure. This finding suggests that under external pressure, firms are gradually shifting from extensional innovation, which relies on external technology, to novelty innovation, which is developed independently. Dr. Gong's study not only deepens our understanding of the adjustment of firms' innovation strategies under geopolitical pressures, but also reveals the limitations that still exist in current research in terms of measurement methods and time span.

The success of this Young Scientists Forum not only provides a platform for faculty and students of SZUCM to communicate with top scholars, but also provides new ideas and directions for promoting academic research and practical application in related fields.
