Academic communication with representatives from the Department of Information Engineering at South China Agricultural University

In order to learn the educational experience of the Information Management and Information Systems major in bachelor program, Professor Zhang Dabin and his five colleagues from the School of Mathematics and Information at South China Agricultural University came to our college for exchange on the morning of November 17, 2023. The two sides jointly held a academic construction exchange meeting. The attending teachers of South China Agricultural University included Professor Zhang Dabin from the Department of Information Engineering, Associate Professor Yu Heping (vice chair of the Department of Information Engineering), Zhang Yongwei, Chen Weiying, Huang Wenling, and Deng Jin. Representatives of teachers from Shenzhen University included Associate Professor Feng Yuanyue (director of the Department of Management Science), Associate Professor Yang Chen (Assistant Dean), Associate Professor Lai Xiaofan (vice director of the Department of Management Science), as well as Geng Shuang, Wang Yang and Song Yinuo.

Associate Professor Yu Heping first introduced the overview and professional characteristics of the South China Agricultural University, especially the contribution of core courses and teaching achievements to the characteristics of agricultural science. Associate Professor Feng Yuanyue introduced the basic situation of our college and shared the experience in the curriculum, special programs, school enterprise cooperation, and micro majors of the Information Management and Information Systems in bachelor program. Both sides had in-depth exchanges and candid discussions on the mode of school enterprise cooperation, enrollment, specialty construction and curriculum.

Teachers from South China Agricultural University stated that Shenzhen University had many innovative measures in specialty construction, such as characteristic classes, excellent classes, micro majors, short courses, and gather-disciple teaching, which avoid the homogenization of talent training programs and teaching content. The university’s strong interdisciplinary intersection, multiple awards for academic achievements, well-designed disciplinary planning, and valuable experiences that were worth learning. Our teacher representatives also expressed that the Information Management major at South China Agricultural University had distinct characteristics, especially in the solid arrangement of information technology courses, which was worth learning and provided valuable experience and inspiration for the development of teaching in the Information Management major at Shenzhen University.
