On the afternoon of September 20, 2024, under the organization of the College of Management, our university's " Famous Teachers Enter High School " event was held at Sanshui High School in Sanshui District, Foshan City. Associate Professor Zhang Haodi from the College of Computer and Software Engineering delivered an engaging lecture titled "The New Era of Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges Brought by Large Models" to the first-year students, which was warmly welcomed by both teachers and students at Sanshui High School.
Professor Zhang began with the evolution of artificial intelligence, elaborating on the background of the emergence of large-scale language models such as ChatGPT and the ensuing "thousand-model war" in academia and industry. He noted that with technological advancements, the new era of artificial intelligence—general intelligence—may arrive sooner than expected. The lecture was rich in content, showcasing the impressive performance of AI technology across various fields and delving into the issues and challenges it faces. He emphasized the significant opportunities AI brings to society, such as increased productivity and improved quality of life, as well as the challenges it presents, including changes in employment structure and data privacy and security concerns. He encouraged students to prepare actively, embrace new technologies, and pay attention to the social impacts of AI.
In conclusion, Professor Zhang quoted Mr. Kai-Fu Lee: "One of the meanings of artificial intelligence is to let us understand ourselves more profoundly," encouraging students to focus on human value and spiritual pursuits alongside technological advancement.
Through this lecture, students learned about AI and, more importantly, began to consider how to find their place in the AI era and how to use AI technology to contribute to society.
