College Youth Scientist Forum (Issue 33): How AI Advice Truly Helps Users Make Decisions

April 30, 2026 Published

On the morning of April 29, 2026, the 33rd Youth Scientist Forum of SZUCM was held in Room B104, Mingli Building, Lihu Campus. Hosted by Vice Dean Chen Xingyu, it invited Professor David Xu from the Department of Information Systems, City University of Hong Kong, to deliver a keynote report on how heuristic cues and AI advice affect decision-making, with over 30 teachers and students attending.

Professor David Xu, a professor at City University of Hong Kong, focuses on human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence and other fields. He has published numerous papers in top international journals and currently serves as a senior editor and associate editor of several renowned academic journals.

In his report, Professor Xu pointed out that familiar and conformity cues often lead to intuitive decisions, and users tend to reject AI advice conflicting with their intuition. His research found that explainable AI can promote rational thinking, while opaque AI may reduce decision adjustment, with in-depth interactions between teachers, students and Professor Xu in the Q&A session.

Vice Dean Chen summarized that the report provided important insights for AI design on online platforms. As a brand activity, the forum will continue to focus on AI, human-machine collaboration and decision science to boost the college’s discipline construction and talent training.
