Shenzhen University successfully hosts the 11th Annual China Management Scholars Workshop (CMSW2023)

Shenzhen University, in collaboration with the university's Social Science Department, College of Management and Mingzhe Platform successfully hosted the 11th Annual China Management Scholars Workshop (CMSW2023) from January 6 to 7, 2024. The theme of the event was "Competitive Integration: Strategic New Thinking in a Contentious Era," which aimed to explore the transition from competitive thinking to a new strategic mindset of "competitive integration," fulfilling the contemporary mission of Chinese management scholars. The event was attended by 149 guests, scholars, and teachers from 97 universities.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Zhang Weiguo, Dean of the College of Management, who welcomed the distinguished guest. Professor Wang Yongcheng, Vice President of Shenzhen University, delivered a speech highlighting the university's rapid development and achievements, emphasizing the relevance of the event in the current competitive environment.

Keynote speakers included Professor Chen Mingzhe from the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, who discussed the role of contemporary management scholars in adapting to change. Professor Xi Youmin from Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and Professor Deng Ziliang from the School of Business, Renmin University of China, also presented on various aspects of management theory and practice.

The event featured a series of speeches and panel discussions, including a roundtable on the integration of management theory and practice, chaired by Professor Hao Jianzu from Lanzhou University. The roundtable included contributions from Professor Jia Ming of Northwestern Polytechnical University, Associate Professor Zhao Xiangyang from Beijing Normal University, and industry experts such as Mr. Wang Aiyang, Founding Partner of Hong Kong Greater Bay Area Capital Co., Ltd.

In addition to the main forum, two sub-forums were organized: the "Youth Scholars Career Development Forum" and the "Journal Editors Face-to-Face" session. The first provided guidance for young scholars on career planning, while the second offered insights into academic journal submissions and the importance of research contributions.

The closing ceremony was presided over by He Jun, Party Secretary of the College of Management, who reflected on the spirit of equality, openness, and responsibility demonstrated by the participants. Professor Han Wei summarized the conference's outcomes, highlighting the coexistence of competition and integration in management studies.

The event concluded with visits to BYD Group, UBTECH, and Shenzhen Shi Fang Rong Hai Technology Co. Ltd., providing participants with an opportunity to engage with business leaders and reflect on the integration of management theory and practice.

The 11th CMSW provided a high-quality platform for Chinese management scholars, offering valuable insights into strategic new thinking for a highly uncertain and competitive global environment. The discussions and suggestions presented at the event are expected to contribute significantly to the economic transformation and social development of China, as well as to the advancement of Chinese management studies on the global stage.
