Theme:Dual Coin System and the Decentralised Exchange

Lecturer:AssociateProfessor Jin Hanqing (Oxford University)

Host: Professor Ma Lijun (College of Management, Shenzhen University)

Lecturer profile: Dr. Jin is an Associate Professor in the Mathematical Institute at the University of Oxford. He received his MS in Mathematics from Nankai University in 2001, and the PhD in Financial Engineering from Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2004. He stayed in the Department as a post doctor a fellow for two years after graduation, and then worked in the Math department in the National University of Singapore as an assistant Professor. In Jan 2008, he moved to the University of Oxford. His research interests include Mathematical Finance, Operation Research, and Stochastic Analysis. Recently his research expanded to digital economics and Decentralised Finance.

Lecture Summary: This work is motivated by a phenomenon in the cryptocurrency market. With the increasing price of Ethereum (ETH), the transaction cost of online activities becomes more and more expensive, which discourage the use of transactions supported by ETH. The same problem happens to other cryptocurrency based on “virtual machine” blockchain. In this paper, we propose a dual coin system and a decentralised exchange market, where we will introduce a utility coin to pay the transaction cost. The utility coin will be generated by the main coin, and can be traded in a tailor-made decentralised market. With our design, the transaction cost will be depressed when the main coin inflates, and investors will be encouraged to use the blockchain when the transaction cost is high.
